Allegoria
Overview
Allegoria is a short film created for RECOOP, Malta's conservation and restoration cooperative, as part of an artistic collaboration celebrating the organisation's legacy and the enduring relationship between people, heritage and time. Through three interconnected chapters, the film explores themes of entropy, perception and human impact, drawing on restored works including the Tarxien Crucifix, Mattia Preti's The Virgin Handing the Girdle to St Francis, and the Monument to Grand Master Nicolas Cotoner at St John's Co-Cathedral. Rather than documenting conservation itself, Allegoria presents restoration as an ongoing dialogue between history and the present, using moving image to reflect on the stories, values and human connections preserved through the work of conservation.

Editing Approach
The edit was driven by atmosphere rather than chronology, using rhythm, texture and sound to connect three distinct themes into a single cinematic experience. Rather than explaining the concepts directly, the pacing was designed to encourage reflection, allowing imagery, archival material and carefully constructed sound to carry much of the narrative. Particular attention was given to transitions between chapters so that each theme felt distinct while remaining part of a unified whole. The result is a film that balances documentary observation with a more poetic visual language, reflecting the philosophy of conservation as an ongoing conversation between material, memory and time.
