Overview
Earthworm is a short experimental film developed alongside a dissertation exploring the role of subtext in cinema and how symbolism, visual language and implied meaning shape an audience's interpretation of a story. Following a young woman consumed by dreams of love and ambition, the film gradually contrasts her aspirations with the inescapable realities of mortality and humanity's connection to the earth. Rather than communicating its themes through dialogue, Earthworm relies on metaphor, recurring imagery and atmosphere, encouraging viewers to actively interpret the narrative and discover meaning beneath the surface.

Creative Approach
The edit was built around emotional rhythm, alternating between moments of intensity and stillness to mirror the protagonist's psychological journey. Rapid sequences contrast with lingering, contemplative shots, allowing tension to build before giving space for reflection. Every cut was guided by the film's underlying symbolism, with pacing used not simply to advance the narrative but to reinforce its themes of ambition, fragility and inevitability. Rather than explaining meaning directly, the editorial approach invites the audience to engage with the film's visual language, trusting them to uncover the subtext through rhythm, repetition and carefully considered transitions.
