Striking a Chord

Overview

Striking a Chord is a series of online lectures produced for the National Library of Malta, exploring the evolution of musical genres throughout Maltese history. Across eight lectures coordinated by Maroma Camilleri and Mervyn Spiteri, the series combines expert presentations with archival manuscripts, historical photographs and supporting visual material to bring Malta's rich musical heritage to life. Designed for an online audience, the project transforms academic research into an engaging and accessible viewing experience while preserving the depth and integrity of the subject matter.

Editing Approach

The edit focused on maintaining visual engagement throughout each lecture by carefully integrating archival manuscripts, historical photographs and supporting imagery alongside the speaker. Rather than relying solely on a traditional lecture format, visual material was introduced to reinforce key points, provide historical context and create a stronger connection between the narration and the subject matter. In addition to editing the series, I designed and animated the opening title sequence used across all eight episodes, establishing a consistent visual identity for the programme. Careful pacing and thoughtful transitions ensured the educational content remained clear and engaging, balancing academic depth with accessible visual storytelling.
